What is Occupational Hygiene?
Occupational hygiene, also known as industrial hygiene in some regions, is a profession dedicated to the protection of workers. Our primary goal is to ensure that employees return home safely each day, without suffering harm to their health from the workplace.
Occupational hygienists specifically focus on the anticipation, recognition, assessment, and control of health risks associated with exposure to workplace hazards. These hazards can include toxic gases and vapours, dust, fumes, excessive noise, vibration, extreme temperatures, and more. Beyond the workplace, occupational hygienists apply their expertise to address indoor air quality issues in homes and buildings, as well as environmental hazards outdoors.
In recent years, there has been an increasing emphasis on tackling environmental concerns such as lead contamination, fire and smoke hazards, and infectious diseases.
